Jail Break

We took the opportunity to escape both Covid house arrest and the wildfire smoke with five days in Monterey. We left a smoky hellscape:

And enjoyed a whole lot of blue heaven:

We ate some food:

Drank some beer:


And rode quite a bit:


We mostly adhered to the rules.






One cool thing we saw was a baitfish feeding event. When it first started, some surfers were sitting in the water watching. You can see a sea lion jump on the right.

When it really cranked up, I think the surfers realized their feet were dangling in the danger zone and hightailed it.


Pelicans, cormorants and gulls attacking from above.


And unseen predators lurking from below, most likely dorado, tuna, sea lions and small sharks.

Occasionally you would see a bunch of baitfish burst from the water as something attacked from below. The poor things were having a rough day.

We headed home this morning refreshed and hopefully better prepared to deal with the chaos of our current home life.
